Luvo and Yema Logistics Platforms to Strengthen Angola–DRC Cross-Border Trade

Angola’s Luvo and Yema Logistics Hubs Set to Boost Trade and Supply Chains with DR Congo

Luanda — The planned logistics platforms at Luvo and Yema are expected to significantly enhance cross-border trade between Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), according to officials from the Angola Cargo and Logistics Certification Regulatory Agency.

Mateus Simão, administrator for the Technical Area and Operations at ARCCLA, said the strategic logistics platforms are designed to leverage the countries’ shared borders to facilitate the movement of goods and improve supply chain efficiency across the sub-region.

Speaking during a panel on transport and logistics at the 3rd DRC-Angola Economic Forum, held over two days in the DRC, Simão explained that the infrastructure projects, developed under ARCCLA’s oversight, are being positioned as key drivers of bilateral trade growth.

“The Luvo and Yema platforms represent important levers for economic integration, ensuring smoother product flows and greater security in logistics operations,” he said.

The logistics panel, which included Amadeu Nunes, Executive Secretary of the Lobito Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency, focused on solutions to formalize trade and remove barriers that hinder the efficient transit of goods between the two countries.

According to a statement from ARCCLA, Angola’s participation in the forum supports the government’s broader strategy to strengthen logistics corridors that ensure reliable national supply chains and promote economic development.

The initiative also aligns with ongoing efforts to modernize the country’s transport and mobility sector.

During the sessions, experts discussed several additional areas of cooperation, including:

  • Combating smuggling along border routes
  • Facilitating cross-border financial transactions
  • Developing the blue economy
  • Expanding collaboration in hydrocarbons and electricity

The meeting in Kinshasa reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to building stronger economic links between Luanda and Kinshasa, with the goal of transforming border regions into sustainable development hubs that benefit local communities.

The forum, held under the theme “Sub-regional Integration of Cross-Border Trade,” brought together senior government officials and private sector representatives from commerce, fisheries, and transport sectors in both nations. The Angolan delegation was led by José de Lima Massano.
