Sallaum Lines Launches European Road Logistics Arm to Expand Vehicle Distribution

Ro-Ro carrier Sallaum Lines has expanded into inland vehicle logistics with the launch of Sallaum Logistics Ltd, a new European road transport business designed to connect vehicle manufacturers, ports, distribution centres and dealerships.

Headquartered in Vilnius, Lithuania, the new company extends Sallaum Lines’ existing maritime vehicle-transport operations into the road logistics segment, giving customers a single logistics partner for the movement of finished vehicles from ports to their final destinations.

Sallaum Logistics will initially operate in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, France, the Czech Republic and Poland, with its network linked to major automotive gateways including Antwerp, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam and Marseille.

The company will begin operations with 50 vehicle-transporter combinations, with each unit capable of carrying up to 10 vehicles, depending on vehicle type, route conditions and national regulations.

Sallaum plans to expand its owned fleet to 300 trucks by 2029, combining owned and leased capacity as it scales its European operations.

The business will provide a range of services across the finished-vehicle supply chain, including factory-to-port transport, cross-border movements, port-to-dealer deliveries, distribution-centre transport, vehicle processing, pre-delivery inspection and vehicle storage.

The company also plans to deploy GPS tracking and telematics across its fleet to improve visibility, route management and operational efficiency.

Strengthening End-to-End Vehicle Logistics

Sallaum Lines said the new business is intended to address the final inland leg of vehicle movements, extending its maritime logistics network into road transportation.

The expansion comes as automotive supply chains increasingly require integrated solutions capable of moving vehicles efficiently between manufacturing facilities, ports and final distribution points.

Sallaum Lines already operates Ro-Ro services connecting Europe and South Africa, with its published schedules including calls at East London, Gqeberha and Durban.

By combining ocean transport with inland distribution, Sallaum aims to provide manufacturers and vehicle distributors with greater control over the movement of finished vehicles across Europe.

The launch represents a significant expansion of Sallaum Lines’ logistics offering and provides the company with a broader platform from which to grow its presence in Europe’s automotive supply chain.
