Cameroon Signs MoU for Edéa–Kribi–Lolabé–Campo Railway to Boost Regional Trade and Mining Logistics
Cameroon has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the development of the Edéa–Kribi–Lolabé–Campo railway corridor, a major infrastructure project aimed at strengthening freight connectivity between production centres, industrial zones and export gateways.
The agreement was signed between the Government of Cameroon, Africa Global Logistics (AGL) and CAMALCO.
According to a statement shared by the Kribi Port Industrial Zone (KPIZ), the project represents a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to modernise transport infrastructure and accelerate economic growth in Cameroon and the wider Central African region.
The planned railway corridor will connect key production areas to the Port of Kribi and the integrated industrial-port zone managed by KPIZ.
The infrastructure is expected to support the development of strategic mining projects while improving the movement of cargo through one of Central Africa’s rapidly growing logistics and industrial hubs.
KPIZ stated that the railway will enhance connectivity between production centres, the Port of Kribi and the industrial-port zone, strengthening logistics operations, supporting industrial expansion and improving access to international markets.
Strategically located on the Gulf of Guinea, KPIZ spans approximately 3,963 hectares adjacent to the deep-water Port of Kribi.
The zone serves as an important gateway to Central African hinterland markets, including Chad, the Central African Republic and northern Congo.
It is positioning itself as a leading regional hub for the transit, processing and redistribution of goods across Central Africa.
The railway is also expected to improve the transportation of mining commodities and industrial cargo between inland production areas and export markets, while increasing the attractiveness of the Kribi industrial and logistics ecosystem for investors, manufacturers and international trade operators.
The project comes as Africa Global Logistics continues expanding its presence across Africa’s transport and logistics sector.
Earlier this month, AGL and Czarnikow announced the launch of Supply Chain Alliance Africa (SCA Africa), a partnership designed to strengthen, optimise and future-proof supply chains across Africa and international markets.
The initiative is expected to improve logistics integration and resilience along key trade corridors.
Stakeholders believe the Edéa–Kribi–Lolabé–Campo railway project could play a transformative role in enhancing regional connectivity, attracting industrial investment and strengthening trade flows between Central Africa and global markets through the Port of Kribi.
