Airlink Expands Fleet with 10 New Embraer E195-E2 Jets in Major Growth Push

Airlink to Add 10 Fuel-Efficient Embraer E195-E2 Jets to Boost African Network and Cut Emissions

Airlink, southern Africa’s largest privately owned full-service airline, has announced a major fleet expansion with the acquisition of 10 new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, to be leased from global aviation lessor Azorra. The announcement was made during the Paris Air Show this week.

The deal represents a significant upgrade for Airlink, which currently operates 68 aircraft and serves 45 destinations across 15 countries, including Madagascar and St Helena Island.

The first of the new twin-engine jets will be delivered from Embraer’s facilities in Brazil later this year, with final deliveries expected by 2027.

“The E195-E2 will bolster our business, helping us be even more competitive on key routes, while continuing to deliver the great value our customers have come to expect,” said Airlink CEO de Villiers Engelbrecht.

The E195-E2 jets will seat 124 to 136 passengers and offer fuel savings of up to 29% compared to older-generation E195 aircraft.

The upgrade is expected to reduce carbon emissions, increase seat capacity, and improve cost efficiency on the airline’s most in-demand routes.

Azorra CEO John Evans highlighted the strategic value of the partnership, saying:

“The E195-E2 provides the perfect blend of capacity, efficiency, and flexibility. We’re proud to support Airlink’s expansion alongside Embraer and Pratt & Whitney.”

The aircraft’s extended range will enable Airlink to explore new destinations across sub-Saharan Africa, further expanding its footprint in the region.

Embraer’s President and CEO of Commercial Aviation, Arjan Meijer, welcomed the agreement as a milestone in the company’s African growth strategy:

“It’s a vote of confidence in Embraer and the E2 family. Airlink, a long-time operator and one of Africa’s most successful airlines, is a key partner in our regional expansion.”

Powered by Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, the new jets will offer 33% more seats than Airlink’s current E190s, while maintaining continuity in pilot training and operational efficiency due to the airline’s long-standing experience with Embraer aircraft, dating back to 2001.

This investment signals Airlink’s post-pandemic growth strategy, aimed at strengthening its network, enhancing service quality, and positioning itself as a leading regional carrier across Africa.
