Ethiopian Airlines Restores Direct Addis Ababa–Atlanta Flights, Boosting Africa–U.S. Connectivity
Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier, has announced the resumption of direct passenger flights between Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport starting May 21, 2026, restoring a vital transatlantic route that was temporarily suspended earlier this year.
The route, initially paused in February, is reopening to meet growing demand and enhance connectivity between Africa and the United States.
The restored service is expected to benefit both business and leisure travelers by providing faster, more convenient access to Ethiopian Airlines’ extensive network across the African continent.
Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, highlighted Atlanta’s importance as a key U.S. market. “Atlanta is one of the most vibrant markets in the United States,” he said. “The city sees high demand from corporate visitors, tourists, and the African diaspora seeking quick and seamless travel to and from Africa. We are delighted to reinstate this route.”
The CEO emphasized that the route caters to business travelers, diaspora communities, and tourists, offering easy access to destinations throughout Africa.
With Atlanta being a major economic and cultural hub, the resumption also strengthens connections between African travelers and southeastern U.S. communities.
Ethiopian Airlines currently serves multiple U.S. destinations and continues to expand its long-haul network.
The reopening of the Atlanta route aligns with the airline’s strategy to increase its global footprint and reinforce its role as a key gateway linking Africa to international markets.
Travelers can book flights through the airline’s official website, mobile app, ticket offices, customer service centers, or authorized travel agencies.
This move not only reconnects an important transatlantic corridor but also supports African business and leisure travel, highlighting Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to expanding reliable and convenient air travel between Africa and the United States.
