Mozambique Approves $117 Million Dondo Logistics Terminal to Boost Beira Corridor Trade

Mozambique Signs 25-Year Concession for Dondo Inland Port to Improve Regional Cargo Flows

Mozambique has signed a 25-year concession agreement for the development and operation of the Dondo Logistics Terminal, a US$117 million inland dry port designed to reduce congestion along the Beira Corridor and improve regional cargo movement through the Port of Beira.

The concession was awarded to Terminal Logístico de Dondo, S.A., a consortium led by Chinese investors, in partnership with Mozambique’s state railway company, Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique (CFM). The signing of the agreement allows construction of the facility to proceed.

Located approximately 30km from the Port of Beira in Sofala Province, the Dondo Logistics Terminal will operate as an inland logistics hub where cargo can be stored, consolidated and distributed before being transported through the port.

Mozambique’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, said the terminal is expected to begin operations by August or September next year and will play a key role in improving efficiency along the Beira Corridor.

The facility is expected to support trade with neighbouring landlocked countries, including Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, which depend on the corridor for access to international markets.

By shifting certain logistics activities away from the Port of Beira, the dry port will help improve cargo handling capacity, reduce congestion and strengthen road and rail freight connectivity across the region.

The Dondo Logistics Terminal forms part of Mozambique’s broader strategy to expand logistics infrastructure and position the Beira Corridor as a more efficient gateway for regional and international trade.
