DP World Launches New Jebel Ali–Berbera Shipping Route to Boost Gulf–East Africa Trade

DP World Opens Jebel Ali–Berbera Maritime Corridor, Strengthening UAE–Somaliland and East Africa Trade Links

A new strategic shipping service linking Jebel Ali Port in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with Berbera Port in Somaliland has officially become operational, APA reported on Friday.

Launched by DP World, the new Jebel Ali–Berbera maritime route is designed to enhance trade connectivity between Gulf Arab states and East Africa, offering a faster, more efficient logistics corridor through Somaliland the self-governing region of Somalia.

With scheduled port calls at Aden (Yemen) and Djibouti, the service improves access to key regional markets across the Horn of Africa, while facilitating smoother trade flows for goods and raw materials.

The route will also connect Berbera Port to inland destinations such as Ethiopia, providing an alternative logistics chain to the traditional reliance on Djibouti Port and long-haul trucking routes.

This new service promises shorter transit times, greater supply chain predictability, and reduced exposure to regional bottlenecks.

Berbera Port’s modernized infrastructure includes a 1,050-metre quay, a 400-metre berth capable of handling Triple-E container vessels, and advanced bulk and breakbulk cargo facilities.

It also boasts an annual livestock handling capacity of around 4 million head of cattle.

As one of the region’s most advanced maritime hubs, Berbera Port is complemented by the Berbera Special Economic Zone (BSEZ) — a key component of DP World’s strategy to attract foreign investment and drive industrial development in the Horn of Africa.

The new Jebel Ali–Berbera service is expected to play a critical role in regional trade integration, further positioning DP World as a leading player in Africa’s evolving logistics and supply chain landscape.
