Swedish hybrid-electric aircraft manufacturer Heart Aerospace is set to perform the first fully electric experimental flight of its Heart Experimental 1 (Heart X1) at Plattsburgh International Airport in New York in 2025.
This milestone flight will make the Heart X1 the largest fully electric aircraft to ever take to the skies. The flight is part of the ongoing development of Heart Aerospace’s 30-seat hybrid-electric regional passenger aircraft, the ES-30.
The ES-30 offers a 200-kilometre all-electric, zero-emissions range, with an extended hybrid range of 400 kilometres, although it remains unclear if the Heart X1 will match the ES-30’s range.
Plattsburgh International Airport was chosen for the experimental flight due to its expansive airfield infrastructure and low air traffic density, providing an ideal environment for the test.
Heart Aerospace’s co-founder and CEO, Anders Forslund, emphasized the potential of electric commercial aircraft to reduce operating costs for US airlines, presenting a unique opportunity to revitalize regional air routes.
These routes could stimulate local economies, enhance tourism, and improve access to urban hubs.
