Transport Minister Extends Transnet Board’s Term to January 2027 to Ensure Leadership Continuity

South African Transport Minister Barbara Creecy has extended the term of Transnet’s board of directors by six months, allowing the current board to remain in office until January 11, 2027, or until a new board is appointed, whichever comes first.

The board’s previous term expired on July 12, prompting the extension to ensure continuity while the government completes the appointment process for new directors.

Under the extension, Dr Andile Sangqu will continue serving as non-executive chairperson. The remaining non-executive directors Lebogang Letsoalo, Martin Debel, Dipak Patel, Busisa Jiya, Mosadiwamaretlwa Pearl Zambane, Boitumelo Sedupane, Refilwe Buthelezi, KG Mbonambi and Professor Fholisani Sydney Mufamadi will also retain their positions.

Transnet Chief Executive Officer Michelle Phillips and Chief Financial Officer Nosipho Maphumulo will continue serving as executive directors.

The extension is intended to maintain stability at the state-owned freight and logistics company as it continues efforts to improve operational performance and implement key reforms.
