China’s ambassador to Angola, Zhang Bin, emphasized the significant advantages the Caio Deep Water Terminal in northern Cabinda will bring to commercial relations between Angola, other African regions, and beyond.
Speaking during his recent visit to the terminal’s construction site, Ambassador Zhang noted that the project would not only foster socio-economic development in Cabinda province but also enhance trade exchanges with various regions across the continent and globally.
The diplomat expressed keen interest in the timely completion of the infrastructure, which is being built by a Chinese construction company at a cost of $831.9 million.
The terminal, which has been under construction for over two years, features a two-kilometer access route and includes a 400-meter wide terminal with a 15.5-meter deep draft, capable of accommodating two large ships simultaneously.
Located on the Caio Coast, the project is being executed in three phases. The first phase, scheduled for completion in April this year, involves the development of port infrastructure and a 100-hectare cargo services area.
During his three-day visit to the province, Ambassador Zhang also toured the maritime passenger terminal and the Sassa-Zau water treatment and distribution station, located 25 kilometers north of Cabinda city.
