The installation of a scanner at the Luvo Border Post, about 60 kilometers from Mbanza Kongo, Zaire, two weeks ago is expected to enhance the rigor of inspections for exported and imported goods, according to Ricardo de Aguiar, director of the 1st Region of the General Tax Administration (AGT).
De Aguiar made these statements during a visit by a delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Luvo Border Post.
The visit coincided with the 9th Ordinary Meeting of the Customs of Angola and the DRC, held in Mbanza Kongo on Friday.
“This scanner, installed less than 15 days ago at Luvo, one of Angola’s busiest borders, will facilitate the inspection of exported and imported goods.
This will ensure greater revenue collection for the state, as well as improved security and public health,” de Aguiar emphasized.
The Angolan authorities are particularly interested in the modernization project of the Luvo Post, as it aims to establish Angola’s first Single Stop Border Post, which will simplify commercial exchanges with the DRC.
De Aguiar also noted that in October 2023, a meeting of the Single Stop Border Posts Implementation Committee was held in Luanda with experts from both Angola and the DRC to exchange experiences on the matter.
“Angola has already approved legislation on One-Stop Border Posts. Given that Luvo is a common border, Angola is eager to exchange experiences with the DRC.
The next meeting of this committee will be held in Kinshasa, the capital of the DRC,” he said, without specifying the date.
