Lobito Corridor guarantees credit for 30% of women’s initiatives

The Angolan Government is currently developing an initiative that aims to boost the granting of credit to national Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, with the prospect of 30 percent benefiting projects carried out by women.

The data was presented, Friday, in the city of Lobito, province of Benguela, by the Secretary of State for Public Investment.

Iva Marques dos Santos went to the city of Lobito, in the province of Benguela, where he led the “Workshop” on the preparation of the Lobito Corridor Master Plan.

The informational and public consultation meeting aimed to establish terms of reference for a better framework for companies interested in competing in the exploration of the Lobito Corridor.

“The spirit of the workshops is always to gather information. So, we discuss and learn from each other.

We have not yet been able to conclude the policies to be implemented, but we already feel some need and some concern from the private sector present in the city of Lobito”, he said .

According to the Secretary of State, the project itself will bring facilitation and dynamism in improving the business environment within the approaches and this is very important.

However, it was decided that without improving the business environment, without the facilitation and creation of companies, there will be difficulties in implementing the designed projects.

According to Ivan dos Santos, another important component   is the mechanism that was created within the project to facilitate micro, small and medium-sized companies to compete for financing for installation along the Lobito Corridor.

The Secretary of State for Public Investment highlighted, on the other hand, that the initiative is underway to boost more credit to facilitate at least 250 credit concessions for micro, small and medium-sized companies, of which 76 are for women.

“It is this impact that we want, to give greater dynamism to the private sector, especially for women”, he said.

The project agreement was signed on June 26 last year (2023). It came into effect on January 10th of this year (2024). The schedule is within the defined milestones.

“We are running with the schedule established by the World Bank, but in terms of infrastructure we hope to implement it from 2025 onwards”, he stated.
