Dangote to Build Nigeria’s Largest Seaport in Ogun State

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Group, has announced plans to develop Nigeria’s largest seaport in Ogun State.

Dangote made the announcement last week during a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun, stating that the project would be located in the Olokola Free Trade Zone (OKFTZ).

“We initially abandoned our plans to invest in the Olokola Free Trade Zone, but thanks to Governor Abiodun’s investor-friendly policies, we are back and ready to collaborate with the government,” Dangote said.

He confirmed that preparations were underway for the port’s construction, which aims to be the country’s largest.

During his visit, Dangote also provided an update on the resumption of work on an $800 million cement plant in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area.

The six-million-metric-tonnes-per-annum facility is expected to be completed by November 2026.

He noted that construction had been delayed due to opposition from a former governor but expressed optimism about its completion.

Currently, the Dangote Cement Plant in Ibese produces 12 million metric tonnes of cement annually. Once the new factory is operational, Ogun State’s total production capacity will rise to 18 million metric tonnes per year, making it the largest cement-producing region in Africa.
