SAA Cargo Expands Regional Network with Johannesburg–Dar es Salaam Route

South African Airways Cargo (SAA Cargo) has reinforced its strategic expansion with the reintroduction of direct flights between Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

This move highlights the airline’s commitment to strengthening regional trade and logistics by offering efficient and reliable freight solutions across East Africa.

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s economic and logistical hub, plays a crucial role in regional commerce. With ongoing infrastructure development, the city provides an ideal gateway for SAA Cargo to expand its services and enhance connectivity for East African businesses.

The resumed cargo route will facilitate the transportation of key commodities, including fresh produce, precious metals, chemicals, and machinery, fostering stronger trade ties between South Africa and Tanzania.

To ensure seamless operations in Tanzania, SAA Cargo has partnered with Millennium Intertrade Africa Limited, a well-established General Sales Agent (GSA).

This collaboration leverages Millennium Intertrade’s local market expertise to enhance cargo services. Expressing enthusiasm about the partnership, Frederic Justice Lyaruu, Managing Director at Millennium Intertrade Africa, stated, “We are thrilled to represent South African Airways Cargo in Tanzania and look forward to supporting its growth and success.”

Kekeletso Mokwena, SAA Cargo Manager, emphasized the significance of this expansion, noting that Dar es Salaam is the first East African destination to be added to the airline’s growing regional network.

This milestone is a key step in SAA Cargo’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence across Africa.

The Johannesburg–Dar es Salaam route operates overnight using an SAA Airbus A320. Departing from OR Tambo International Airport at 10:00 PM (SAST), the flight arrives at Julius Nyerere International Airport at 2:30 AM (EAT).

The return journey departs Dar es Salaam at 5:10 AM (EAT), reaching Johannesburg at 7:55 AM (SAST). This schedule optimizes connectivity for both passengers and cargo, ensuring swift and reliable transport between the two cities.

Beyond Dar es Salaam, SAA Cargo is expanding its regional footprint with increased frequencies to key African cities, including Harare, Lusaka, Lagos, Accra, Kinshasa, and Lubumbashi.

The inclusion of Dar es Salaam aligns with the airline’s long-term vision of deepening its East African presence and driving logistical innovation.

Through strategic partnerships and network expansion, SAA Cargo is positioning itself as a leading force in Africa’s air freight industry.

By investing in enhanced connectivity and operational efficiency, the airline continues to contribute to economic growth, trade facilitation, and regional development.

As demand for cargo services rises, SAA Cargo remains committed to evolving and improving its offerings to meet the needs of businesses across Africa.
