Lufthansa Cargo Expands Fleet with 18th Boeing 777 Freighter

Lufthansa Cargo has taken delivery of its 18th Boeing 777 freighter, which arrived at Frankfurt Airport over the weekend.

The long-haul aircraft was delivered directly from Boeing’s factory in Everett, USA, to the cargo airline’s largest hub in Frankfurt.

“The B777F remains the most efficient and modern freighter in its class,” stated Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo.

“This latest addition to our fleet represents a significant investment in our long-haul operations and supports our commitment to making air cargo more sustainable.”

Lufthansa Cargo now operates a fleet of twelve B777F aircraft for long-haul routes, with an additional six B777 freighters managed by AeroLogic, a joint venture between DHL and Lufthansa Cargo.

The airline’s global network is further enhanced by four A321 freighters serving short- and medium-haul routes.

Dr. André Schulz, head of Lufthansa Cargo’s Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and CIS region, recently highlighted the necessity for airlines to increase fleet investments to keep pace with the growing demand for e-commerce.

In the local market, Lufthansa Cargo is set to expand its service offerings with the launch of a Johannesburg to Munich route, operating three times a week starting September 3. Additionally, a daily service between Cape Town and Munich will commence on October 27.
