Transnet Strengthens Leadership with Key Executive Appointments

Transnet has appointed Bessie Mabunda as Chief Executive of Transnet Engineering (TE) and Moshe Motlohi as Chief Executive of Transnet Rail Infrastructure Manager (TRIM), effective March 1.

These appointments aim to enhance strategic leadership, ensure stability, and strengthen the organization’s key operating divisions.

TE, Transnet’s manufacturing division, provides research, design, manufacturing, and maintenance services for the global rail industry, with a strong focus on Africa.

TRIM oversees South Africa’s rail infrastructure, managing, maintaining, and developing the national network.

Mabunda, previously interim infrastructure manager and GM of rail network and capital projects at TRIM, has extensive experience in freight logistics and rail infrastructure.

She has worked at Transnet for 12 years and previously spent over a decade in the electrical energy sector, focusing on infrastructure maintenance and development.

Motlohi, who has served as TRIM’s acting CE since October 2024, holds an Executive MBA from the University of Cape Town Business School and a Management Advancement Programme certificate from Wits Business School.

With over 20 years of experience, he has held leadership roles in sales, marketing, logistics, warehousing, corporate affairs, maritime operations, and stakeholder management.

“These appointments reflect our commitment to recognizing and promoting internal talent,” said Transnet Group COO Lekau Letsoalo. “Their expertise aligns with our strategic direction, ensuring stable leadership to drive operational and financial priorities.”

Letsoalo expressed confidence in Mabunda and Motlohi’s ability to lead their teams, contribute to Transnet’s recovery and growth, and strengthen the company’s long-term success.
