President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to conduct an oversight visit to the Eastern Cape this week, where he will engage with the Provincial Executive Committee and receive a comprehensive briefing on the Port of Ngqura.
The visit will begin on Tuesday with a presentation by Transnet leadership on the operational status of the port.
As one of South Africa’s newest deep-water ports, Ngqura is designed for high-efficiency container handling and can accommodate large vessels.
It is strategically integrated with the Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and serves as a key transshipment hub for Southern Africa.
“During the visit, the President will receive an update on plans to improve operational efficiencies at the port and review ongoing projects,” the Presidency announced on Monday.
On Wednesday, President Ramaphosa and members of Cabinet will meet with Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane and his executive council.
The meeting will focus on strengthening intergovernmental collaboration and enhancing service delivery at the local government level.
The visit aims to align provincial development priorities with those of the incoming seventh administration, in line with the government’s integrated District Development Model.
This marks the fifth engagement between the national executive and provincial governments, following similar visits to Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and Gauteng.
The President will be accompanied by Ministers and Deputy Ministers throughout the visit.
