Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced significant updates to its North West Continent (NWC) to South Africa service, alongside the introduction of two new shuttle services.
These developments position the Port of Walvis Bay in Namibia as a critical transshipment hub for the region.
In a recent statement, MSC confirmed its commitment to enhancing its Southern African network to facilitate seamless trade between Africa, Europe, and other global markets.
Key Service Updates:
- NWC to South Africa Service:
- Offers direct connections between Northern Europe, South Africa, and now Namibia, with a new direct call to Walvis Bay.
- Namibia Express Service:
- Connects Cape Town and Walvis Bay, enabling the efficient delivery of cargo from across Europe to Namibia via transshipment.
- Mozambique Shuttle Service:
- Links Walvis Bay with Maputo and Beira in Mozambique, extending to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Mombasa in Kenya.
- Facilitates cargo imports and exports between Europe and East Africa, with Walvis Bay serving as the primary transshipment hub for Maputo and Beira.
“Walvis Bay will become our new transshipment hub on the Southern Africa West Coast, streamlining the movement of goods from Europe through our NWC to South Africa service. Additionally, MSC is reinforcing its intra-Africa network in the region,” the company stated.
These strategic enhancements underline MSC’s dedication to optimizing trade routes and fostering economic growth across Africa and its trading partners.
