Daimler Truck Southern Africa’s Wellness Programme Transforms Truck Drivers’ Lives

Daimler Truck Southern Africa (DTSA), in collaboration with Trucking Wellness, has significantly improved the well-being of numerous truck drivers by granting them access to a variety of health and wellness services.

These services encompass primary healthcare provisions offered through stationary roadside wellness centers, comprehensive mobile wellness centers, and the Fleet Owner Workplace Wellness Programme tailored for DTSA key account customers.

On April 19, Pool Transport became the tenth key account customer to successfully complete the programme under the guidance of the National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry (NBCRFLI)’s Trucking Wellness Project.

Launched in 2013, the programme serves as an exclusive value-added benefit for key account customers, focusing on enhancing the health of employees with a unique emphasis on driver well-being to mitigate the impact of diseases and illnesses on business operations and overall cost efficiency.

Over the past 11 years, the programme has continually evolved to address emerging customer needs. This year, Pool Transport played a pivotal role in aligning the DTSA Fleet Owner Workplace Programme with Road Traffic Management System (RTMS) accreditation, pioneering the development of the first fatigue management policy, and aiding in the establishment of a medical certification process for truck drivers.

Dirkie van Zyl, Managing Director of Pool Transport, emphasized the company’s commitment to prioritizing driver wellness as a collective responsibility to ensure road safety.

He expressed gratitude to DTSA, Trucking Wellness, and NBCRFLI for their unwavering support and investment in the well-being of their employees.

Tertius Wessels, Managing Director of Corridor Empowerment Project, overseeing Trucking Wellness for the NBCRFLI, highlighted the 15-year partnership with Daimler Truck Southern Africa, fostering enhanced utilization of Trucking Wellness and other NBCRFLI wellness services while implementing mutually beneficial programs.

Maretha Gerber, President and Group CEO of DTSA, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to improving access to primary healthcare for truck drivers, emphasizing that a healthy driver contributes to safer roads for all.

She commended partners like Trucking Wellness and Pool Transport for their commitment to completing the programme and making a lasting impact on driver well-being.
