The Minister of Transport, Ricardo d’Abreu, announced that the New Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (NAILAAN) in Angola will receive its certification by the last quarter of this year, enabling it to handle passenger traffic. This certification is part of a broader initiative to certify five key national airports.
Speaking at an Aerodrome Certification Seminar, d’Abreu stated that following the certification of NAILAAN, the government plans to certify five more national airports, including Catumbela, in the short to medium term.
“We have a network of 18 national airports, and with the addition of the New International Airport, our goal is to certify all airports to accommodate passenger and cargo transportation,” he said. He added that these certified airports would also serve as alternates for possible diversion flights.
The minister emphasized that the government’s strategy aims to enhance the operability of the country’s airport infrastructure.
“Catumbela is our second air transport hub, with Huíla as the third. In Cabinda, we are planning the construction of a new international airport, and its certification is integral to our sector strategy,” he explained.
d’Abreu also highlighted that the airports in Huambo, Luena, and Luau (Moxico), which are under construction in the Cazombo region along the Lobito Corridor, will stimulate economic growth and create various business opportunities.
The Aerodrome Certification Seminar, organized by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), will continue until Friday.
