AD Ports Group Spearheads Luanda Port Terminal Modernization

In a groundbreaking initiative poised to reshape Angola’s maritime landscape, AD Ports Group has solidified strategic alliances with local entities Unicargas and Multiparques, securing a 20-year concession agreement with the Luanda Port Authority.

This landmark collaboration represents a significant stride towards the modernization and expansion of the existing Luanda multipurpose port terminal, heralding a new era of efficiency and growth in the region’s logistics domain.

With a committed investment of $251 million over the next three years, AD Ports Group is set to revolutionize the terminal’s operations and infrastructure.

The comprehensive redevelopment plan encompasses expansive upgrades, transforming the facility into a state-of-the-art container and Ro-Ro terminal.

Key enhancements include the enlargement of the concession area, modernization of quay walls, deployment of cutting-edge equipment, and the implementation of advanced IT systems.

These improvements are poised to elevate container handling volumes to 350,000 TEUs and Ro-Ro volumes to over 40,000 vehicles, solidifying Luanda’s pivotal role as a crucial trade gateway in Central-West Africa.

The Port of Luanda holds immense significance, currently managing more than three-quarters of Angola’s container and general cargo volumes, serving as the linchpin of the country’s domestic economy.

Furthermore, as a vital transshipment hub for the region, it facilitates maritime trade access to landlocked nations such as the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.

Amid projected annual growth in container volumes, the revitalization of this port terminal is primed to catalyze economic development and bolster trade connectivity across the region.

At the heart of AD Ports Group’s strategy lies a steadfast commitment to seamless operations during the terminal’s redevelopment phase.

Temporary arrangements will ensure uninterrupted service delivery, with container volumes being managed at nearby berths and surplus cargo redirected to Multiparques’ Viana inland container depot.

This meticulous approach underscores the Group’s dedication to minimizing disruptions and prioritizing customer satisfaction throughout the transformation journey.

Beyond infrastructure enhancements, AD Ports Group is poised to revolutionize the region’s logistics landscape through strategic partnerships and innovative service offerings.

Collaborating with Unicargas, the Group will establish integrated logistics and freight forwarding services, catering to local, regional, and international clients. Leveraging Noatum Logistics’ global expertise and infrastructure, coupled with Unicargas’ local knowledge and assets, this venture promises to deliver end-to-end supply chain solutions and unlock fresh growth prospects across diverse markets.

This partnership transcends mere business interests; it embodies the shared commitment of the Angolan government and AD Ports Group to foster sustainable economic growth and enhance regional trade dynamics.

Angola’s Minister of Transport, Ricardo Daniel Sandão Queirós Viegas de Abreu, has hailed the alliance as a transformative initiative poised to elevate Angola’s stature in the international maritime trade arena and stimulate economic vibrancy across Central-West Africa.

Looking ahead, AD Ports Group remains steadfast in its dedication to fortifying Angola’s broader maritime industries, encompassing the offshore sector.

By deploying tailored resources and infrastructure to meet the unique demands of Angola’s marine environment, the Group aims to catalyze further development and innovation within the industry through its marine & Shipping Cluster.

The transformative partnership between AD Ports Group and Angolan stakeholders marks a pivotal juncture in Angola’s maritime evolution.

By spearheading the modernization of the Luanda port terminal and pioneering innovative logistics solutions, the Group stands poised to unlock fresh economic vistas, enhance regional connectivity, and propel Angola towards a prosperous and sustainable future.
