LAM Reschedules Flights for Boeing 737-700 Overhaul

On Saturday, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) announced the rescheduling of certain flights due to a “one-off overhaul” of its largest aircraft, a Boeing 737-700.

The Mozambican national airline apologized for the inconvenience caused by these changes.

LAM serves 12 domestic destinations and has regular regional flights to Johannesburg, Dar-Es-Salaam, Harare, Lusaka, and Cape Town. Lisbon is its only intercontinental destination.

On Wednesday, LAM’s Board of Directors appointed Américo Muchanga as chairman, succeeding Theunis Christian de Klerk Crous, who had been serving as interim chairman since February following the departure of João Carlos Pó Jorge.

This change is part of a restructuring process now overseen by Fly Modern Ark (FMA), a South African company managing LAM since April 2023.

LAM’s revitalization strategy addresses years of operational challenges due to a small fleet and lack of investment, along with several non-fatal incidents attributed by experts to poor aircraft maintenance.

During Fly Modern Ark’s management, the company uncovered alleged embezzlement schemes at LAM, resulting in losses of nearly €3 million from ticket sales through unauthorized automatic payment terminal machines (TPA/POS).
