The Lobito Corridor Sparks Agricultural and Industrial Development

The dynamism of the Lobito Corridor is fueling increased production of agricultural goods by the business class and family producers across six provinces in Angola.

Lucas Ábias, acting president of the Chamber of Business Development in Benguela province, made this acknowledgment during the opening of the International Forum for Investment in the Central and Southern region of Angola.

Ábias highlighted the positive impact of the corridor’s development on entrepreneurship, particularly among young people, who are venturing into small investments.

The forum aims to showcase investment opportunities in Agriculture, Industry, Transport and Logistics, and Mining, fostering partnerships between national and foreign companies to spur investment in the region.

The Lobito Corridor, spanning the Central, South, and East regions, boasts vast arable lands suitable for agriculture and pastoralism, as well as rich mineral resources, attracting increased agricultural production from farmers and family producers.

Ábias also lauded the region’s industrial history, citing notable achievements such as the establishment of the first electric light in Angola and the construction of the Benguela Railway, connecting Angola, Zambia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The region’s infrastructure includes one of the largest deep-water ports in Southern Africa, a thriving seafood fishing basin, and ongoing efforts to certify the Catumbela International Airport.

With air, sea, and road connections, including the National Road No. 100 linking Angola, Namibia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the region offers ample opportunities for success.

However, Ábias underscored the need for human capital development and employment stimulation to address existing challenges.

The International Forum for Investment in the Southern Region/Lobito Corridor, organized by the Private Investment and Export Promotion Agency (AIPEX), aims to promote business opportunities and partnerships, facilitate interactions between investors and government representatives, and drive economic growth in the region.

With the participation of foreign businesspeople, deputies, and investors from various provinces, the forum seeks to catalyze sustainable development and prosperity across Angola’s central and southern regions.
