Botswana Railways and Ntokoto Holdings Join Forces to Support Mining and Logistics Growth
Botswana Railways has entered into a strategic partnership with Ntokoto Holdings to strengthen the country’s mining and logistics sectors and improve the movement of minerals and other commodities through Botswana’s rail network.
The partnership is aimed at developing more efficient rail-based logistics solutions for the mining industry, with a particular focus on improving the transportation of bulk commodities and supporting Botswana’s growing mineral production.
Botswana is seeking to expand its mining sector beyond diamonds, with coal, copper, manganese and other minerals becoming increasingly important to the country’s economic development.
Efficient transport infrastructure will be essential to moving these commodities from mines to processing facilities, domestic markets and export destinations.
The partnership with Ntokoto Holdings is expected to support the development of logistics solutions that can improve rail utilisation, reduce reliance on road transportation and potentially lower the cost of moving high-volume commodities over long distances.
Stronger rail connectivity could also enhance Botswana’s role as a regional logistics link, particularly as Southern African countries seek alternative routes to international markets and greater integration of their transport networks.
For the mining sector, reliable rail infrastructure is particularly important because bulk minerals can be transported more efficiently by rail than by road over long distances.
Increased rail utilisation could also help reduce pressure on road infrastructure and improve the overall efficiency of regional supply chains.
The partnership comes as Botswana and neighbouring countries continue to explore opportunities to strengthen cross-border rail connectivity and develop more competitive corridors for mineral exports.
By combining Botswana Railways’ rail infrastructure and operational capabilities with Ntokoto Holdings’ commercial and logistics expertise, the partnership is expected to contribute to the development of a more efficient and competitive mining logistics system.
As Botswana expands mineral production and looks to diversify its economy, strengthening rail infrastructure will remain critical to ensuring that increased mineral output can reach regional and international markets efficiently.
