Enio Costa, President of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), held discussions with Christian Chavanel, Director of Systems and Coordinator for Africa of the International Railway Union (UIC), in Luanda on Monday.
The meeting aimed to discuss restructuring processes and enhancing technical capacity in response to investments aimed at boosting the national railway sector.
Costa emphasized the need for technical training for staff, particularly with recent developments such as the concession of the Lobito Corridor.
He stressed the importance of aligning frameworks with international best practices while considering the specific needs of the country.
The conclusions of the meeting are expected to facilitate the adoption of best international practices, particularly in areas such as signaling, telecommunications, and infrastructure, for the implementation of Angolan Railways.
The partnership will provide opportunities for technicians from ANTT-affiliated companies and sector operators, including Caminho-de-Ferro de Luanda, Benguela, Moçâmedes, and Lobito Atlantic, to benefit from training programs.
Negotiations for cooperation terms between the parties will follow after visits to the railway companies on Friday.
Christian Chavanel highlighted UIC’s commitment to collaborating with ANTT on technical issues related to railways and fostering relationships with international institutions.
UIC, founded in 1922, consists of approximately 200 railway companies worldwide, transport operators, and infrastructure managers, along with universities and innovation structures.
With operations spanning one million km across 100 countries, UIC is poised to play a crucial role in promoting economic, social, and environmental objectives in the railway sector.
