The Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) has proudly facilitated the successful transport of a 50-meter oxygen plant container to Solwezi, the capital of Zambia’s North-Western Province, renowned for its mineral wealth.
This monumental logistical achievement involved moving the 171-ton oxygen plant, sourced from Malaysia, along the 2,900-kilometer Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Corridor.
The journey began at Namibia’s Port of Walvis Bay, a critical logistics hub for Southern Africa. Known for its efficiency in serving landlocked countries, the port provided a streamlined gateway for this oversized cargo.
From there, the plant was transported on a specialized 63-meter-long truck equipped with cutting-edge safety features, ensuring compliance with stringent safety and regulatory standards.
The operation required meticulous planning and coordination between WBCG, its transport partners, and government agencies.
As an example of the corridor’s capacity for handling abnormal and oversized cargo, this move highlights its strategic importance in regional trade and infrastructure development.
The oxygen plant is destined for a major mining operation in Solwezi. Copper, the region’s primary export, relies heavily on oxygen for critical processes such as smelting, improving both efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The WBCG emphasized the significance of the Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Corridor in supporting trade across Southern Africa.
By offering a shorter, more efficient route than alternative ports, the corridor provides a competitive advantage for exporters and importers in Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and neighboring countries.
“This achievement underscores our commitment to excellence in client service and our role as the corridor of choice for transporting goods in the region,” said WBCG.
The successful delivery of the oxygen plant reaffirms the corridor’s ability to handle specialized project cargo, bolstering its reputation as a key driver of regional trade and investment.
It also showcases WBCG’s dedication to supporting critical industries such as mining, ensuring safety and efficiency in every step of the logistics chain.
