Zambia and Eswatini Sign Bilateral Air Services Agreement to Launch Direct Flights

Zambia and Eswatini have taken a major step toward improving regional air connectivity with the signing of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA).

This milestone agreement clears the way for the establishment of direct commercial flights between the two countries, opening new opportunities for travel, trade, and economic cooperation.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the 10th Africa Indian Ocean Aviation Week in Victoria Falls—an event dedicated to showcasing progress in Africa’s aviation sector.

Zambia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon. Museba F. Tayali, described the agreement as more than just a bilateral achievement.

He emphasized that it reflects a shared commitment to the liberalization of air transport and aligns with the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) goals.

It also advances the African Union’s Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) initiative, which seeks to make air travel across Africa more accessible and efficient.

Speaking on behalf of Eswatini, Mr. Thulani Mkhalipi, Principal Secretary at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, announced plans for the Kingdom to launch its first direct flight to Zambia in September.

Preparatory visits and discussions on operational logistics are scheduled for June to ensure a smooth rollout.

The new air link is expected to significantly boost tourism, streamline business travel, and strengthen economic ties between Zambia and Eswatini.
