Transnet Freight Rail’s (TFR’s) North Corridor achieved a significant milestone by delivering 1.41 million tonnes last week, marking the highest weekly volume for the current financial year.
This accomplishment includes transporting 1.18 million tonnes of export coal to the Richards Bay Coal Terminal and operating 11 chrome trains.
Surpassing the previous record of 1.40 million tonnes, this achievement not only highlights the corridor’s exceptional performance but also sets a new benchmark for the number of trains operated within a single week.
TFR attributes this success to several operational enhancements implemented on the North Corridor. These enhancements include increased availability of rolling stock and improved safety measures to combat theft and vandalism.
Theo Johnson, North Corridor’s acting managing executive, expresses pride in the team’s unwavering dedication and sees this milestone as a catalyst for reclaiming the corridor’s former glory.
Russell Baatjies, TFR’s CEO, emphasizes the collective effort of employees and stakeholders, praising their commitment to safety and relentless work ethic.
He views this achievement as a pivotal step in TFR’s journey of rebuilding and recovery, affirming their progress on the right path.
The record-breaking performance of the North Corridor not only demonstrates collective capability but also serves as motivation for sustained excellence and growth across TFR.
Baatjies extends his appreciation to the North Corridor team and stakeholders for their exceptional dedication and effort, highlighting their crucial role in TFR’s success.
