Two proposals have been submitted for the public tender to explore, manage, and maintain the Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN).
The proposal opening took place on the 8th of this month in the Operator’s Room.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport, the two contenders are the consortium Corporacion America Airports, SA (CAAP), Mota-Engil Engenharia e Construção, SA, and BestFly, Lda, and a second consortium comprising China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation (CAIEC) and Yunnan Airport Group Co., Ltd.
The proposals will undergo a detailed evaluation process, followed by a negotiation phase aimed at enhancing the submitted proposals.
The final award decision will be made by the contracting public entity after these steps are completed.
The consortium led by Corporacion America Airports specializes in airport management and operates 52 airports across six countries in Latin America and Europe, including Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Ecuador, Armenia, and Italy.
In 2023, these airports served 81.1 million passengers, representing approximately 96.4% of pre-pandemic levels.
The competing consortium, China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation (AVIC) and Yunnan Airport Group Co., Ltd., is a state-owned conglomerate involved in aerospace, defense, engineering, and infrastructure construction.
It is affiliated with the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Ltd. (Fortune Global 500) and may extend operations for an additional 15 years.
AIAAN has the capacity to handle up to 15 million passengers and 130,000 tons of cargo annually. The airport infrastructure is designed to be one of the largest logistics hubs in Africa, aimed at enhancing commercial exchange, facilitating mobility between African countries, and strengthening Angola’s global connections.
Currently, cargo flights operate at AIAAN, with full operational capacity for commercial passenger transport flights expected by the last quarter of 2024.
