Peel Ports Group Launches £750M Construction Frameworks for UK and Ireland Ports

Peel Ports Group, the UK’s second-largest port operator, is calling for contractors to bid on two new frameworks aimed at overseeing a significant long-term construction program across its sites in the UK and Ireland, totaling £750 million.

The port operator intends to engage contractors for two frameworks spanning up to eight years. One framework will focus on general construction, while the other will address marine construction.

These frameworks will encompass construction projects across Peel Ports Group’s entire portfolio of ports in the UK and Ireland, including key locations such as the Port of Liverpool, Heysham Port, Manchester Ship Canal, London Medway, Clydeport sites, Great Yarmouth, and Dublin Port.

This initiative underscores the operator’s commitment to delivering its extensive construction pipeline, which includes enhancements to existing infrastructure and the development of new facilities.

Lewis McIntyre, Managing Director of Ports Services at Peel Ports Group, emphasized the significance of these developments in future-proofing the network and ensuring adaptability to the evolving needs of port users.

He highlighted the long-term nature of the framework agreements, enabling meaningful and sustainable partnerships with construction contractors.

McIntyre stressed the collaborative approach, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2040, and the opportunities for partners to design and implement environmentally conscious solutions.

The scope of the first framework encompasses a wide range of general construction works, including drainage systems, road and car park construction and maintenance, earthworks, warehouse construction and refurbishment, paving and concrete works, rail construction, bridge projects, and demolition.

Meanwhile, the second framework focuses on specialized marine construction, covering activities such as piling, asset renewal, berthing infrastructure, quay wall maintenance, lock and sluice gate management, and roll-on roll-off facilities.

The procurement process is slated to unfold throughout 2024, with contract awards anticipated towards the end of the year.
