The rapid transformation of the quayside in Tanzania’s largest city, Dar es Salaam, is set to significantly alter trading patterns in East Africa.
After DP World’s concession win last October, a consortium led by India’s largest port operator, Adani Ports, has also been approved to develop a terminal at Dar es Salaam.
Adani has been granted a 30-year concession to operate Dar’s Container Terminal 2, which features four berths and an annual cargo handling capacity of 1 million TEU. The facility was previously managed by Hutchison Ports.
Last year, DP World signed a 30-year concession agreement with the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) to operate and modernize part of the port, further solidifying Dar es Salaam’s role as a key player in regional trade.
