Indian Naval ships INS Tir and INS Sujata are gearing up to participate in the second edition of the India Mozambique Tanzania (IMT) Tri Lateral (TRILAT) Exercise, scheduled from March 21 to 29, 2024.
The inaugural edition of the IMT TRILAT exercise took place in October 2022, featuring participation from INS Tarkash alongside the Tanzanian and Mozambique Navies.
The upcoming exercise will be conducted in two phases. The harbor phase, slated from March 21 to 24, will see INS Tir and INS Sujata engaging with their counterparts at the ports of Zanzibar (Tanzania) and Maputo (Mozambique).
This phase will include joint harbor training activities such as Damage Control, Fire Fighting, Visit Board Search and Seizure procedures, Medical Lectures, Casualty Evacuation, and Diving operations.
Subsequently, the sea phase, scheduled from March 24 to 27, will focus on countering asymmetric threats, Visit Board Search and Seizure procedures, boat handling, maneuvers, and firing exercises. Additionally, a joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance is planned during this phase.
The exercise will culminate with a joint debrief session scheduled at Nacala (Mozambique).
During their harbor stay, Indian Naval ships will be open for visitors and engage in sports and cultural exchanges with the host Navies.
Furthermore, training visits for sea trainees of the 106 Integrated Officers Training Course are also planned at the respective ports.
