IATA Launches Device Assessment Programme to Enhance Air Cargo Safety

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has introduced the Air Cargo Device Assessment Programme, a new initiative designed to validate tracking devices, data loggers, and sensors for compliance with stringent industry safety standards.

This program aims to ensure the safe and secure transport of air cargo while fostering global consistency in device approvals.

The initiative responds to increasing demand for reliable and secure air cargo services, particularly in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, perishables, electronics, and high-value goods.

These shipments often depend on battery-powered electronic devices to monitor shipment conditions and ensure integrity during transit.

Brendan Sullivan, IATA’s Global Head of Cargo, highlighted the programme’s significance, stating, “Shippers rely on various devices to monitor their sensitive shipments.

The IATA Air Cargo Device Assessment will confirm that these devices comply with strict industry safety standards.”

By standardizing device validation, the programme aims to build confidence across the logistics chain, ensuring that sensitive cargo remains safe throughout the journey.

This initiative is a step forward in addressing the challenges of modern air cargo logistics and meeting the evolving needs of global shippers.
