DP World’s Port of Callao terminal has taken a pioneering step in Latin America with the launch of the region’s first electric charging station for trucks.
This initiative is part of DP World’s broader decarbonization plan aimed at reducing over 2,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
The new infrastructure, situated within a newly constructed pier, will accommodate twenty 100% electric internal transport trucks, marking the largest fleet recently acquired by DP World.
These vehicles will be powered by clean energy, furthering the company’s commitment to sustainability.
Sany Rodriguez, DP World’s senior director of safety, environment, and sustainability, emphasized the significance of this project in advancing environmental initiatives.
The initiative is expected to substantially decrease carbon emissions and promote the adoption of electric mobility in Peru’s market.
The charging station, developed by Enel X Way, features ten dual fast-charge chargers with 200 KW each, supported by an electrical infrastructure of 2MW of installed power.
Additionally, solar panel covers on the roof provide energy to illuminate the station, enhancing its sustainability.
Enel X Way also implemented a charging management platform to monitor energy consumption and CO2 emissions savings as part of the project.
Globally, DP World is committed to investing approximately $72 million in carbon-neutral port operations, equivalent to 0.5% of its annual revenue.
Initiatives like the electrification program at the Port of Callao underscore DP World’s dedication to sustainable practices and environmental stewardship.
