Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has announced plans to build Nigeria’s largest seaport at the Olokola Free Trade Zone (OKFTZ) in Ogun State. He made the revelation on Monday during a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun.
“We initially abandoned our investment plans in the Olokola Free Trade Zone, but due to Governor Abiodun’s investor-friendly policies, we are back. We will collaborate with the government to develop the country’s largest port,” Dangote stated.
In addition to the seaport, Dangote confirmed that construction has resumed on a 6-million-metric-ton-per-annum cement factory in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area. ,
The project, delayed due to opposition from former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, is now set for completion by November 2026.
Ogun State already hosts the 12-million-metric-ton-per-annum Dangote Cement Plant in Ibese. With the completion of the Itori plant, the state’s total production capacity will reach 18 million metric tons per annum, making it the highest cement-producing region in Africa.
Dangote highlighted how his company’s investments have made Nigeria self-sufficient in multiple industries.
Cement production has eliminated the need for imports, turning Nigeria into an exporter. Similarly, fertilizer production now exceeds domestic demand, generating valuable foreign exchange.
He also referenced the impact of his 650,000-barrel-per-day petroleum refinery, which has begun exporting refined products while significantly reducing domestic fuel prices.
