Angola and France Deepen Strategic Transport Cooperation in Paris

Angola’s Minister of Transport, Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, and France’s Minister Delegate for Transport, Philippe Tabarot, convened in Paris to enhance bilateral collaboration in the fields of transportation and infrastructure.

The high-level meeting focused on several key areas of strategic importance:

Civil Aviation: Discussions highlighted Air France’s operations in Angola and the expansion of TAAG Angola Airlines’ fleet with Airbus aircraft, aiming to boost connectivity and modernize the national carrier.

Urban Mobility: Both nations emphasized the ongoing partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD) and CODATU to implement Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems in Luanda, alongside plans for expanding similar initiatives to other Angolan cities.

Rail, Road, and Electric Mobility: The ministers addressed sustainable mobility solutions, with particular attention given to the Luanda Metro project and the integration of green technologies across transport sectors.

Logistics and Maritime-Port Sector: Key initiatives include the development of the Barra do Dande Free Trade Zone and the modernization of Angola’s national maritime authority to improve efficiency and regulatory oversight.

A strategic overview of the Lobito Corridor was also presented, positioning it as a critical axis for regional integration and economic development.

Additionally, the ministers proposed the creation of a Bilateral Monitoring Group to expedite the implementation of joint projects and ensure sustained progress.

This meeting marks a significant step forward in Angola-France relations, underlining a shared commitment to fostering a modern, sustainable, and integrated transport ecosystem.
