Airlink to Expand Nairobi and Lusaka Services Amid Growing Demand for Regional Connectivity

Airlink has announced plans to enhance its Nairobi and Lusaka services in response to increased demand for more connections between South Africa, Zambia, and Kenya’s economic hubs. Starting 30 March, the airline will add extra flights to these routes.

The expanded services include three weekly night-time return flights between Johannesburg and Nairobi, complementing the airline’s daily service launched in 2023, which made Airlink the first private-sector carrier to operate on the route.

Additionally, Airlink will increase its Johannesburg–Lusaka service by adding morning and afternoon flights, boosting the schedule from 13 to 21 return flights per week.

Rodger Foster, CEO and Managing Director of Airlink, said: “The added Nairobi and Lusaka flights aim to offer both business and leisure travelers more options and seamless connections through our Johannesburg hub, linking to our domestic and regional services, as well as long-haul flights provided by our global airline partners.”

These new flights come as demand for Johannesburg–Lusaka routes remains high, with 45 weekly flights, demonstrating a solid business case for maintaining or expanding the route.

With multiple airlines operating on all three routes, the market remains competitive, which could result in more attractive pricing for consumers and potentially increased passenger numbers.

The lowest fares from Lusaka to Johannesburg currently start at approximately $184, suggesting potential for price adjustments in line with rising demand.
