Economists and agricultural business leaders in Huambo province of Angola are optimistic about the forthcoming completion of the Logistics Platform in Caála municipality, foreseeing significant economic gains and job opportunities.
Alfredo Bacia, an economist, underscored the pivotal role of infrastructure development programs like logistics platforms in fostering agricultural production, aligning with the government’s vision to boost the sector.
These platforms are poised to support initiatives such as Planagrão and Planapecuária, facilitating the storage and preservation of agricultural produce for exportation to Southern African countries and Europe via the Port of Lobito.
Bacia emphasized the potential for Huambo to regain its status as Angola’s breadbasket, particularly in cereal, legume, and vegetable production.
He highlighted the Logistics Platform’s role in promoting fruit exports, including the burgeoning avocado plantations in partnership with Dutch importers.
Júlio Tchimbilundo de Paiva, an agricultural businessman and economist, predicted that the Caála Logistics Platform would catalyze agricultural productivity in the region and bolster the economy along the Lobito Corridor.
He anticipated increased cereal harvests across the seven municipalities served by the railway line, diverting attention from traditional markets like Kilometer 30 in Luanda, Benguela, and Cuanza-Sul provinces.
Moreover, Tchimbilundo de Paiva emphasized the corridor’s potential to enhance commercial exchanges between coastal consumption hubs and interior production centers, benefiting provinces like Huambo, Bié, and Moxico and fostering economic growth nationally and regionally.
